Haven't you been wondering what people did to feed their chickens before we could ship fancy grains and etc all over?? This article (in the current Backyard Poultry) doesn't look at what people used to do, but it does offer some idea about what we can do to decrease our dependence on store-bought feed.
I've scanned the article and will be happy to loan it to interested parties. It's a fairly crumby (fuzzy) scan, but worth the effort.
