Executive Summary:
"The global economy is facing a ‘triple crunch’. It is a combination of a credit-fuelled financial crisis, accelerating climate change and soaring energy prices underpinned by an encroaching peak in oil production. These three overlapping events threaten to develop into a perfect storm, the like of which has not been seen since the Great Depression. To help prevent this from happening we are proposing a Green New Deal."
My comment:
Al Gore was eloquent and correct and persuasive. But again left me casting about for an outline of a specific program that might help us out of this mess. Imagine my delight when the Green New Deal Group looked to one of my fellow polio survivors for inspiration, and came up with something a bit more tangible. Now we just need someone to write this up into legislative proposals for all levels of government in the US. Then we can do sit-ins until they are passed into law. Simple!
The report itself (How annoying, but ultimately harmless: you have to register on the site to download the 48 page pdf. Considering we owe them a debt for bringing this about, it's not too huge a toll to pay.)
